About our Institution

The founders’ foresighted VISION to see the students harmoniously developed great in heart, great in mind, great in deed and great in soul led to the establishment of this institution. Their mission in life was to transform the rural youth from a passive, conservative, traditional form to a vibrant, progressive, scientific and enterprising mould.

The Higher Education Institution, N T S Samiti’s Shri Shankar Arts and Commerce College was founded in 1970 to meet the Higher Educational needs of the people of Navalgund Town and surrounding area. It has now become the pride of the place.

Heartfelt pranamas to the generous and munificent gestures of His Holiness Late Shri Pandit Gurudev Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of Chikkamannur Hiremath who sacrificed his entire life time earnings for the establishment of this college. This further prompted another kind hearted lover of education His Holiness Late Shri Basavaling Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of Panchagraha Hiremath of Navalgund to donate 43 acres of land for the noble cause of spreading higher education in this rural area of Northern Karnataka. The name of another major donor Shrimati. Basammatai Nidavani of Halkusugal village cannot be forgotten. She has donated valuable land of 11 acres to this college in the name of her husband Late Shri Parameshwarappa Nidavani.

The present infrastructure has been extended with the financial support of donors, Government, UGC, MLA & MP Grants and Alumni keeping in pace with the growing needs. The infrastructure has grown both horizontally and vertically. The college started with 166 students, now with the introduction of various courses and different combinations like BA, B.Com. the strength has increased to 597.
